Hello Campus Middle School Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to keep you apprised of many of the amazing things going on at Campus. I had the privilege of traveling with our amazing 8th grade orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Risner to Colorado Springs to perform at the Colorado Music Educators Association Conference at the Broadmoor Hotel. This is a very prestigious honor to perform at this conference as it is a gathering of all the scholastic music programs in the state. Our students performed beautifully!

We are happy to announce that Ms. Erika DeShay and Mrs. Brynn Thomas have been selected as Campus Middle School's 2013-2014 Teachers of the Year. Erika is a phenomenal Language Arts teacher and Brynn is a Physical Education teacher extraordinaire. I would like to share a few quotes form parents and students regarding these very special ladies.

Erika:

"She is a teacher who teaches us to think outside of the box. She also pushes students to learn to their fullest potential."

"She Gets It! She understands what students need to learn and to help them. Students come back from Creek to say thanks. Teachers know when you had this teacher a "B" in her class really means and A"

Brynn:

"The Girls love this teacher. This teacher is strong and gives the image of a powerful woman that girls need and respect. She makes the term You throw or kick like a girl cool.

"She is a very amazing teacher! She puts her heart and soul into her job and makes PE a great class. Everything she does is to help us improve."

We are very excited to begin our 1 Book, 1 Campus campaign starting the first week of February.  The hope is to build a community around reading for the love of reading. There's no extra homework or assignments attached to the book.  Although we will promote the book and have fun events that relate to the book, the real goal is to enjoy the book and enjoy reading.  We have chosen an amazing book that will excite kids about reading!  Every student will get an autographed copy of the book thanks to the generosity of Comfort Dental. This would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our librarian, Derek Phelan, and a host of parent volunteers.

The recent unspeakable school tragedies both nationwide and close to home at Arapahoe High School continue to prompt us to closely examine our safety procedures. I ask that when you need to access the building during school hours, you do not park in the red zone immediately in front of the school. The district is currently looking at short term parking options that will create spaces for parents picking up or dropping off students. Parked cars in the red zone create visual obstructions that hinder security monitoring. We continue to have our very purposeful conversations with our students on the topic of creating a caring environment at Campus Middle School. We do this through our PBIS initiatives that includes bully-proofing and classroom based Dean talks. We will also continue to practice drills with our staff and students on a regular basis.

Finally, I want to encourage you to express your voice in any of the parent groups here at Campus Middle School. I would ask that you attend PTO Meetings, Accountability Meetings, and our PASS Meetings, whenever possible. Dates and times for all parent meetings can be found on the calendar on the main page.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Enrique Rosales
