Campus Library News

We have two big announcements from the Library (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)

1)     We have received a $7,000.00 grant from Comfort Dental for a library/parent initiative called 1 Campus, 1 Book.  A select committee has narrowed the list of books, and we will ultimately choose 1 book.  Then, any students in the entire school will receive a copy of that book, if they would like to read it.  The goal is to build a community around reading for reading-sake.  There will be no assignments attached to this book.  It’s purely meant for outside-of-class reading, and reading for the sake of reading!   We want kids, teachers, lunch staff, parents, office managers, and anyone else in the community to read the selected book, so that we can all connect around 1 book regardless of age, gender, race, etc. Derek Phelan (librarian) and Ilana Spiegel (our wonderful parent rep.) are the sponsors of this wonderful literacy promotion.  Stay tuned for the book selection to be revealed in mid-January!  We are thrilled!  Come January, we would love help with logistics and promotion around this reading program.  So, let us know via email (dphelan@cherrycreekschools.org), if you’d like to be part of our 1 Campus, 1 Book organization team!!!

2)     We have gone live with the Overdrive (our digital library that has eBooks and audiobooks)!  We also have the dates kids will be trained on how to access, browse, borrow, and download the eBooks and audiobooks.  There will be two parts to the training.  Students will receive part 1 of training in their language arts classroom the first week back after Winter Break.  Part 2 of training, where students may bring in any reading devices (smart phones or eReaders); will help students download the eBooks on to devices.  This will occur in mid-late January and we will have extra devices for kids who do not bring one to train on. Our goal is to train all the kids, so they know how to access Overdrive.  We want our library to be the library that checks out the most eBooks in the district!
