Orchestra Update

Campus Middle School's six orchestras have been busy.  In January the 8th Grade Orchestra had the privilege of being one of the two middle school orchestras in the state selected to play for the Colorado Music Educator's Conference at the Broadmore Hotel in Colorado Springs.  They did a fabulous job, including two world premieres which were written specifically for them. Then five days later they joined forces with West Middle School and Cherry Creek High School for a combined concert.  Not to be left out, all three 6th grade orchestras and the 7th grade orchestra performed in a fabulous concert called "Stringathon" at Smokey Hill High School.  There were almost 400 students involved from West, Laredo and Campus Middle Schools.  We played in the gym because that was the only place we all fit.  Congratulations to all!  Chamber Orchestra continues to meet each Friday after school.  We are working on Handel's Water Music Suite and a contemporary piece called Mantras.  March will be the time for the older students to gear up for their upcoming music festivals and the 6th graders to learn new skills and prepare for their May concert (the concert date is changed).  As I said before, we are a busy bunch of musicians. Check to be sure that the performance dates listed below are on your calendar.  Please note there are two date changes to the May concert schedule.

Guitar Update

The third quarter beginning guitar classes for 7th and 8th graders are sounding great!  The students have learned a number of chords, tablature and note reading.  In March they will be writing an original composition.  There is a performance day for these two classes on March 27th.  Please come hear us at 9:05 – 8th grade class, or 12:05 – 7th grade class.  It is always a fun time!  As always, I look forward to another great month with your fabulous children!

Physical Education

Did you know that exercise improves your productivity and ability to get more done?  Research shows that people who take time to exercise on a regular basis are more productive and have more energy than those who spend most of their day sitting.  Feeling tired?  Get up, get moving, and get more done!

Here are the happenings in the Physical Education classes at Campus Middle School for March 2014!

6th Grade

6th graders are rotating to their second unit in our current activity rotation of handball, badminton, and intro to personal best.

As the weather starts to get nicer, be prepared to start going outside for our in class warm up.

7th Grade

We have completed our badminton unit and are currently playing indoor soccer.

 7th Grade Weight Training

We finished fitness testing and are focused on proper technique for twenty five lifts.  We are learning which muscles those lifts isolate and where the muscle is located.  Get ready to create a more individualized workout!

8th Grade

We have completed our badminton unit and are currently playing indoor soccer.

CMS Art Department

March and April signal the busiest time of year for the arts in Colorado.  We are closing on the Mobile Art Gallery (MAG) that was provided to CMS through the Alliance Grant to our school.  The show was a huge success and was a complimented by our own CMS artists.  If you missed the Mobile Art Gallery you can still enjoy two other art shows that are right around the corner.  Youth Art Month will continue to be celebrated at the Curtis Arts & Humanities Center where Cherry Creek School District is represented by several schools including CMS.  The center is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:30-5:00.  The final art show of the year will take place April 10-24 at Cherry Creek High School.  The show will focus on the artwork of students from the western side of the district.  There will be a closing reception on Thursday, April 24 from 5:00-7:00, and will be open to the public.  Our students have done an amazing job this year and we hope to see you all at the upcoming shows!
