APRIL

Elective News:

Creative Writing 8:  This quarter in Creative Writing the students will learn how to run a successful writer's workshop.  The workshop will allow each student to reflect and revise their writing.  In addition, they will have the opportunity to read their classmates' writing.  During the first part of the quarter the students will be working on Reject a Hit letters, Fairy Tale parodies, and writing Amazon reviews.

Creative Writing 7:

This quarter in Creative Writing 7, the seventh graders will learn how to write scripts and screen plays.  The students will be responsible for writing scripts for Mrs. Widmann's theater arts class.  The students will visit Mrs. Widmann's theater arts class to see their scripts performed. 

 

Ted X Youth Mile High Event:  On April 16th, I will be taking a group of students to see the Ted X Youth Mile event at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.  Last year, Swathi Kompella, a current 8th grader at Campus gave the talk of her life!  Here is the link to see her talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oml5JLFKgH8.  We are still waiting to find out the speakers for this year's event, but I am sure it will be an experience to remember.

*Congratulations to Stephen Sigman!  After 17 rounds and 5 hours of competition he placed 5th in the State Spelling Bee! Way to go Stephen!

 

*The state competition for Destination Imagination is April 12th. Good luck to Campus' DI teams!

3rd Quarter:  Advanced Options 6, 7, & 8:   The students will be presenting their research March 20-28.  Please check with your child about their presentation date.

 

Advanced Options 7th & 8th grade:   If your child is in 7th or 8th grade and has taken Advanced Options this year, please send them to see Mrs. Bainbridge.  We have an opportunity to go to the TedX Youth event at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.  Mrs. Bainbridge has an informational letter and the permission slip.

The Denver premiere of Sepideh, a film featuring a courageous young Iranian woman who refuses to conform to traditional expectations and dreams of a future as an astronaut is on Wednesday, March 19th. Sepideh spends her nights exploring the secrets of the universe, while her family will do anything to keep her on the ground. But Sepideh defies the odds and teams up with the world's first female space tourist, Anousheh Ansari.

*Brain Bowl: Our Brain Bowl teams did awesome at the Regional Tournament! Our 6th grade team:   Austen Mazenko, Daniel Zhu, Zachary Chapman, Max Garmann, and Justin Alter, took 1st place at the Regional Tournament. Our 8th grade team: Grace Lao, Maximillian Gomez, Katie Dillon, Emmaleth Ryan, and Sid Mane, took 2nd place at the Regional Tournament. Both teams competed at the State Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22nd.  In the morning rounds 6th grade took 2nd place and 8th grade took 1st place.  The elimination rounds were tough!  The 6th grade team took 7th place in the State and the 8th grade team took 2nd place in the State. Way to go Campus!

*District & State Spelling Bee:  Congratulations to our Campus students who competed in the District Spelling Bee. 1st place winner for the district was Dai An Jiang, 8th grade at CMS!  Austen Mazenko (6th) took 3rd place, Stephen Sigman (8th) took 6th place, and Cat Jafek (7th) took 10th place.     All four students will be competing at the State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 8. Good luck!

*Summer Opportunities: Have your child join me and Josh Pierce on Monday, March 10th during their lunch period. The students will learn about Camp Inc. (www.CampInc.com) and how to earn a scholarship to the camp.  More information about this meeting will be in the morning announcements.
