5 Awesome Things in Library.pdf

Over 1,000 books given out during 1 Book, 1 Campus

The first year of 1 Book, 1 Campus was a wild success and exceeded our own expectations.  For those unfamiliar with 1 Book, 1 Campus, it is a program made possible by Comfort Dental's generous donation, in which any kid who wanted a book would receive a free copy.  The program is simply to promote reading for reading sake.  There's no homework, assignments, or testing tied to reading.   After sorting through more than 100 books, we selected a fun, adventure book by award-winning author Roland Smith called I.Q.: Independence Hall.  Roland Smith even signed 1,000 of the books!   A line of 300 eager students waited outside the library on the first day that students could receive the book.  70% of the staff is reading the book and students' parents and other family members have also started reading it.  The great part about the book I.Q. is that it is a cliff-hanging series, and many kids have already started reading the second, third, fourth, and fifth book.

A week of promotions galvanized 1 Book, 1 Campus the first week of February.  The halls were littered with neon green book posters.  Every day at lunch, students were treated with an event or performance that was related to the book.  One day Dr. Rosales played his guitar and sang with Ms. Deshay for their audience.  Magicians, Tae Kwan Do demonstrations, and Spy Tech Gear Day were other events that students were treated to.

This could not have taken place without our wonderful donor, our phenomenal parent volunteer committee, our awesome staff, and our amazing principal who truly values and supports the library.  We are looking forward to making 1 Book, 1 Campus an annual event.
